I paint landscapes developed from my sketchbooks whilst sailing. Colour and form of the natural world and how humans and animals interact is what interests me. I use different media in loose, bold marks, incorporating collage, sand and other materials in an experimental way.

Sailing and walking combine to excite my imagination as it is whilst visiting the Scottish islands on foot or by boat that I see landscapes, birds, flowers and animals that urge me to paint. The sea and skies are changing every minute and challenge you to capture the fleeting moment with a quick sketch. Later, in a warm studio, it can be developed. It is often the simple line and wash sketch done while the boat is heeling and the wind threatening that gives me the most satisfaction.

Style: representational or semi abstract

Media: acrylics, watercolour, pastel and mixed
